Going, going, gone: Animals Count supports ban on betting on racing dogs
With less than three weeks to go until the closing date of Defra's consultation on the welfare of racing greyhounds, Animals Count supports the 'Racing Dog Protection Act' (RDPA) initiative which calls on the government to ban betting on racing animals. Betting is the driving force behind the industry, causing serious injuries and suffering of thousands of dogs, who are mostly bred in Ireland and raced to death in the UK.

The Welsh Assembly has published a consultation on the eradication of TB as plans to cull badgers in Pembrokeshire are underway. Wales thereby ignores the decision made in England not to cull badgers because it is an ineffective method to control bovine TB, and it ignores the many thousands of concerned Welsh citizens opposed to such a cruel cull. Animals Count has always advocated strong cattle-based measures to address bovine TB.
